Ruth Pulda
Our partner, Ruth Pulda, passed away on the afternoon of June 9, 2008, after a five-year fight with cancer. She inspired us all with her courage, leadership, commitment to justice, and amazing spirit. Connecticut Employment Law Blog Honors Ruth Ruth Pulda has been with the firm since 1984 and a partner since 1986. Ruth has extensive experience representing individuals in all aspects of employment matters at the administrative level, including at the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities and the state Employee Review Board, and trials in state and federal court. She also has extensive experience in negotiating and resolving separation and severance matters and non- compete agreements and in resolving employment disputes without the need for litigation. She has conducted scores of training for all levels of employees in various employment matters including the laws and policies governing sexual harassment, pregnancy and family and medical leave. Ruth has also represented unions in a variety of matters, including collective bargaining, arbitration and contract administration. Ruth is also legal counsel to the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund and was a Commissioner on the State Permanent Commission on the Status of Women for many years serving as it’s Chair of the Commission from 1993- 1995, and served as its Secretary for many years. For the past many years, Ruth has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Connecticut Law School, teaching either Women and the Law or running a Women’s Rights Clinic. She is also counsel to the Connecticut Coalition for Choice and in that role monitors health care issues that affect women and girls. She has been appointed to numerous legislative task forces, including the Task Force to Revise the State Family and Medical Leave Acts and the Task Force and the Task Force on the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, and was a member of the National Women’s Law Center Task Force on Sexual Harassment in Elementary and Secondary Schools. Ruth received her BA. from Connecticut College in 1978 and her J .D. from New York University School of Law, which she attended as a Root-Tilden Scholar. She was selected by the Connecticut Bar Association to be a James P. Cooper Fellow, and as a member of the Inns of Court. Before joining her firm, she clerked for Leo J. Parskey, Associate Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. Prior to attending law school, Ruth worked for the Connecticut Legislature. She has been a member of a number of local and state organizations and the recipient of a number of awards for her public service. Ruth has been the recipient of numerous awards, particularly from the women's rights community. On behalf of the Coalition for Full and Fair Woman’s Health Care, Ruth was awarded the Organizing Award from the Legislative Education Action Program for her work on women’s health care. She has also been recognized by the Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund (CWEALF) for her “immense contribution of time and talent” in that area. In 2002, the Connecticut Coalition for Choice honored Ruth as a “courageous champion of choice”. Additionally, In 2003, Connecticut National Organization for Women (NOW) honored Ruth with it In addition to her numerous awards, Ruth also has been named by Connecticut Magazine as a Top Labor and Employment Lawyer and also as a Superlawyer by New England Magazine. She has also been listed in Hartford Magazine’s Best Lawyers each year since September 2004 and also in New York Magazine’s New York Area's Best Lawyers since 2005.
