Even as a child, Nicole’s career ambition was to become an attorney. To that end, Nicole graduated with honors in 2000 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with her B.A. in political science and legal studies. She then continued her legal education at the University of Connecticut School of Law, receiving her J.D. with honors in 2003. During her second and third years at UConn, Nicole held elected positions on the Connecticut Law Review and the Connecticut Moot Court Board. Still involved with her alma mater, Nicole now serves as a class agent for UConn Law.
Since her early law school days Nicole has been actively involved in the study and advancement of civil rights. She first worked at LAPM&K as a legal intern during which time she also interned at UConn’s Civil Rights Clinic where she represented clients in cases involving employment and housing discrimination. In recognition of her commitment and outstanding service as an advocate on behalf of clients while participating in that clinical program, she was awarded the Honorable M. Joseph Blumenfeld Award in 2003. At UConn she also received several awards in the field of labor and employment law–the Fleming James, Jr. Award for Academic Excellence in Labor Law and two CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for her course work in Employment Discrimination and in Organizing the Workplace.
After graduating from law school Nicole spent her first two years in practice working in the public interest sector, at Connecticut Legal Services’ Stamford office as the Seaman Family Foundation Fellow. While at CLS, Nicole represented low income individuals and families in administrative matters involving public benefit programs including medicaid, food stamps and federal and state welfare programs, as well as in unemployment compensation hearings. She was also an active member of her local union, the National Organization of
Legal Services Workers, a chapter of the UAW.Nicole now practices mainly in the area of individual rights where she represents employees in claims involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation and First Amendment activity, both at the administrative level (including at the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities) and in federal and state court. Her work also includes advising and representing individual employees in matters related to severance, non-compete agreements, invasion of privacy, defamation and infliction of emotional distress. Nicole also has experience representing Union clients in court and administrative proceedings.
Nicole is member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the National Lawyers Guild and serves as Treasurer of the Connecticut Employment Lawyers Association. She is also a member of the Connecticut Bar Association’s Labor and Employment and Federal Practice sections and the Women and the Law Committee.
