On June 23, Middletown Food Not Bombs, represented by Peter Goselin and Elizabeth Conklin, filed a lawsuit and also sought an injunction against the City of Middletown and the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health to prevent enforcement of a cease and desist order barring the organization from participating in First Amendment protected activity.

On Monday, July 13, WNPR devoted an hour-long program, "Where We Live," to a discussion of Reporter Shelly Sindland's discrimination complaint against Fox 61.

A fox 61 reporter has filed a complaint against her employer – charging age discrimination, and lifting the veil on the industry’s obsession with youth and beauty.

On Tuesday July 7, 2009, Fox 61 News Reporter Shelly Sindland, represented by Associate Elizabeth Conklin and Partner Gregg Adler, filed a complaint against Fox 61 alleging age and sex discrimination and retaliation.  As her complaint affidavit alleges, Fox 61 actively encourages younger women to "be sexy," and favors younger women and men of all ages over older, more experienced female on-air news professionals.

The chief negotiator for the state employee unions ripped Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell's budget Thursday, saying it is a counterproductive plan that would cut public services and compound the state's economic problems, causing the loss of 15,000 jobs.

Daniel Livingston, an attorney for the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition, said the unions were disappointed in Rell's no-tax-increase proposal, which eliminates more than 800 state positions and heads in the opposite direction of President Barack Obama's plans to boost the economy through more government spending.

"Employees are, and should be, free to exercise their First Amendment right to speak out on important matters without fear of retaliation, especially where, as is the case here, the plaintiff is a private employee, was only acting in her capacity as a concerned parent and citizen, and where there is no dispute that the plaintiff's speech was constitutionally protected.”
